The Island of Gran Canaria: Exploring San Bartolomé de Tirajana

Welcome to San Bartolomé de Tirajana, a municipality located in the province of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. With its triangular shape, it covers an area of 333.13 square kilometers and reaches an altitude of 850 meters above sea level. Known for its various population centers, San Bartolomé de Tirajana offers a range of attractions and cultural sites to explore.

Homenaje a la Mujer Tirajanera

One notable sculpture in San Bartolomé de Tirajana is the "Homenaje a la Mujer Tirajanera," created by Canarian sculptor Luisa Alemany Mont. Made from stone from the mountains, the sculpture depicts a local woman wearing a traditional headscarf. Inaugurated in July 1997, it is situated in the old town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, near the town hall.

Iglesia de San Bartolomé de Tirajana

The construction of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Church began in 1600, but it wasn't consecrated until 1922, three hundred years later. The church features a basilica-style structure divided into three naves, with the central nave being taller than the rest. The main altarpiece, created by master Lino Feorap, houses an image of San Bartolomé, sculpted between 1783 and 1787.

The Museo No Gráfico Casa de los Llanes is housed in a 19th-century rural house that was acquired by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana municipality from the Jean family in 2000. Inaugurated in 2005, the museum's 12 rooms recreate life in the house during the 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing the furniture, decor, and everyday items of that time. The museum also features a section dedicated to Don Manuel Ferrón Araña, a local doctor.
