Discover Torre la Vega: The Industrial Capital of Besaya

Torre La Vega, located between the valleys of the Saja and Besaya rivers, is known as the capital of Besaya. Its foundation is attributed to Garcilaso de la Vega, the first mayor of Castilla, who built a tower here. Since the 18th century, it has been known as Torre de la Vega or Torre La Vega. This city has a predominantly industrial character and is the second most populated city in Cantabria after Santander. Its strategic location, at the crossroads towards Asturias and the plateau, made it an important commercial and industrial center during the Middle Ages. It was home to flour and tannery factories, and from the late 19th to early 20th century, it experienced its economic heyday with the arrival of large companies. In 1995, it was granted the title of city by its regent, María Cristina.

It offers a complete commercial offer with a strong tradition of fairs and markets, especially livestock fairs like the National Livestock Market, also known as La Cuadrona.
